I’ve skated this a lot, it’s one of my favourite spots – nothing is over 90cm high, aside from the bowl which is about 2m deep. This is a low-impact park which gets a lot of use from all ages and abilities.
The skater who designed it, Janne Saario, is a landscape architect and understands the philosophy of incorporating a facility into a space to minimise any environmental impact, maximise the longevity and make it spatially & historically relevant to what was there before.
The site is flanked on two sides by busy commuter bike lanes and footpaths and is well served by nearby bus and tram stops. Initially built in 2006, the grass cutout was filled in with concrete recently which was an excellent update to an already top quality park.
